Legend has it that beneath this beach lies the mythical city of Dugium, founded by the nerios and buried by a giant wave during an apocalyptic storm. Along with Mar de Fóra, Rostro is the perfect beach to catch a beautiful sunset. It is a common destination for surfers.
Open to the Atlantic Ocean, Rostro stretches along 1.25 miles of wonderful, soft and smooth dunes. This virgin beach is protected under the EU’s Natura 2000 Network. Its vegetation is an important habitat for many species, such as seagulls, Kentish Plovers and kingfishers. It is a paradise for those who enjoy hiking.
It is an ideal beach for a spot of sunbathing, but caution is advised, because strong winds and big waves make swimming dangerous. Notice the warning signs! These weather conditions, however, are precisely what make Finisterre a good spot for surf lovers.
It is located in the parish of San Xoán de Sardiñeiro. To get there, follow the AC-552 towards Corcubión. The Sardiñeiro exit will take you to Padrís.
